The Carousel of Happiness Board of Directors is seeking applications from talented dynamic professionals for consideration for appointment as our next Director.

The Carousel of Happiness in Nederland, Colorado is a not-for-profit organization that promotes and operates a community-centered historic carousel dedicated to inspiring happiness, wellbeing and service to others through stories and experiences.

The Director is a hands-on working leader and reports directly to the Board of Directors. The position is responsible for working with the Board to carry out all aspects of the Carousel’s operations and mission. Specific responsibilities include managing SAFE daily facility operations; ensuring routine and scheduled equipment maintenance; conducting all business functions of the Carousel facility and select fundraising activities; providing recruitment, organization and supervision of staff and volunteers; coordinating special events and group visits, especially by people with disabilities or other special needs; managing the gift shop; evaluating and managing the Carousel business to maintain ridership and store goals while operating within the annual budget; and overseeing marketing, advertising, public relations and social media. The salary, leave and benefits package is competitive and compensation will be established commensurate with experience. The initial salary range is established at $45,000 – $55,000 per year.

This position requires, at a minimum, experience in management of a cultural, retail or service organization, including familiarity with retail bookkeeping, accounting and financial controls; strong interpersonal, organizational, communication and computer skills; marketing and public communication experience; and the demonstrated ability to manage time effectively and flexibly as both a leader and a doer. The ideal candidate will also have experience working with a nonprofit board. Other desirable attributes include a bachelor’s or master’s degree in a discipline related to the job.
